Abstract:
Language used to describe a specific event may be biased as aresult ofthe typicality or group membership ofthe actor performing abehavior·In general ,positive behavior performed by anin-group member and negative behavior performed by an out -group member is de—scribed more abstractlythan negative behavior performed by an in -group member and positive behavior performed by an out -group mem—ber·The linguistic category model has been usedto distinguish between different levels oflinguistic abstractionfromthe concrete to the increas—ingly abstract·Maass describes the bias as the linguistic intergroup bias (LIB)·Two mechanisms have been advancedto underlie the LIB:cogni—tive mechanismand motivational mechanisms·Researches indicate that most oflinguistic intergroup bias phenomena can be explained by cogni—tive mechanisms ,the motivational mechanisms play roles whenin-group be threatened
