Abstract:
The contribution of values to the recognition of young people's items is based on recollection rather than on familiarity processes.Given that older adults' recall is impaired while familiarity is preserved,it remains to be explored whether the effect of value on older adults' associative recognition is based on familiarity or recollection processes. This study uses the modified Remember/Know paradigm to explore the effect of value on the extraction process of linkage recognition under high ecological validity material. It was found that older adults had higher recognition performance on remembering high-value materials than low-value and non-value materials, and lower recognition performance on knowing high-value materials than low-value and non-value materials. This suggests that the facilitative effect of values on the associative recognition of older adults is based on recollection processes rather than familiarity processes.
